Since June 1, as part of Operation Clean Air, inspectors of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, together with employees of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, have checked 4,519 vehicles, including 245 trucks and 323 buses. 3,717 vehicles were with gasoline engines, 569 with diesel engines and 233 with gas fuel. In the exhaust gases of 133 (2.9% of all tested) cars, excess standards for pollutants were detected. Monitoring of the state of environmental safety of vehicles will last in the Republic of Tatarstan until September 30. Inspections are carried out jointly with all territorial departments of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan on the main highways, checkpoints and enterprises. This year, it is planned to inspect at least 6 thousand cars for the level of dangerous pollutants. Let us recall that the joint operation of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Traffic Police has been carried out in Tatarstan annually for 40 years. The first such raids began back in 1983. Last year, as part of Operation Clean Air, 6,570 vehicles were checked on highways, of which 183 or 2.8% did not meet the required standards for emissions of pollutants in exhaust gases.
Let us recall that the main purpose of the event is to monitor compliance with the standards for the content of pollutants in the exhaust gases of motor vehicles and to prevent the negative impact of vehicles on the atmospheric air. In addition, in order to further minimize the negative impact of motor transport on the environment in the republic, work continues on the conversion of motor transport to low-toxic types of motor fuel, and primarily to compressed natural gas, which is considered as an ecological type of motor fuel.
In 2022, the number of cars purchased and converted to compressed natural gas amounted to 1,420 units, which made it possible to reduce emissions into the atmosphere by 2,4 thousand tons.
Total gross emissions of pollutants from road transport in the Republic of Tatarstan in 2022 amounted to 103.2 thousand tons against 119.7 thousand tons in 2021. The reduction of emissions from motor vehicles by 16.5 thousand tons is explained by a reduction in the number of vehicles registered in the republic of ecological classes EURO 0 – EURO 3 and the transition to modern motor fuel, as well as their conversion to compressed and compressed natural gas.
