In order to prevent flooding of the territories of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Ecology of the republic made a proposal to increase water discharges at the Kuibyshev reservoir

Rosvodresursy held a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on regulating the modes of operation of reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade. The Republic of Tatarstan was represented by the Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov.

The meeting discussed the issue of skipping the flood of 2023, the timing of filling the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade for the summer period, as well as the start date and regime of a special spring release to the Lower Volga in the interests of agriculture and fisheries of the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions.

Today, the level of the Kuibyshev reservoir near Kazan is 52.79 m BS, in the upper reaches of the Zhiguli hydroelectric complex – 52.42 m BS. In the period from March 17 to April 4, the Kuibyshev reservoir hydroelectric unit operated in the filling mode. The average discharge costs were about 3,000 cubic meters/s. 

In order to prevent flooding of the territories of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Ecology came out with a proposal to move the start of a special release to an earlier date. The position of the republic was supported by representatives of the Samara Region and the Republic of Mari El, as well as JSC Tatenergo, the system operator of RAO UES of Russia and PJSC RusHydro.
