Tatarstan is one of the most highly developed industrial regions of the Russian Federation. The matters regarding rational nature use are the top priority issues in the context of the Strategy for social and economic development of the Republic. The state programs implemented here aim at consistent and long-term work on reduction of the man-induced impact on the environment, as well as promotion of high-level quality of life of the citizens.

We have always been paying much attention to ecology in Tatarstan. In 2013, we celebrated the Year of Ecological Culture and Environmental Protection. Great work on development of comfortable public space was carried out within the framework of the Year of Parks and Square Gardens. This year is the Year of Water Protection Areas, and it will allow the Republic to ensure sustainable development and ecological safety of water resources.

Following the results of the two-month sanitary and ecological campaign held in Tatarstan, the winners were identified in the category "Best municipal district".

All who are not indifferent to the ecology-related matters are invited to participate in the Contest of Educational and Research Projects on Environment Protection carried out within the framework of the program "Youth - for the nature of Moscow". The event is held to promote participation of the youth in solution of ecological problems, and its involvement in research and practical nature protection activity. Categories of creative pieces of work:

- suggestions on solution of ecological problems (ideas, inventions, projects, and programs);

- research projects (monitoring, studying, and assessment);

- projects on ecological enlightenment, education and social advertisement (video spots, leaflets and so on).

The World Environment Protection Day will be celebrated on June 5th at the Museum of Natural History of Tatarstan, the "Kazan Kremlin" Reserve Museum. A campaign for collection of energy-saving lamps and batteries "Let's save a hedgehog!" will be held on this day.
