Improvement of the ecological condition of rivers and reservoirs, issues of ensuring environmental safety in the Nizhnekamsk industrial complex area, creation of the Volga Expanses protected area. This is only part of the projects and directions implemented by the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan in close conjunction with the scientific community of the Republic.
As Minister Alexander Shadrikov noted during a press conference with journalists, the scientific approach in Tatarstan has always been a priority in solving all key tasks and aspects. Based on science, the Ministry of Ecology develops breakthrough environmental projects and solutions, which are subsequently replicated throughout the country.
For example, a comprehensive project "Improving the ecological condition of rivers and reservoirs of the Republic of Tatarstan" is being implemented in the republic. Back in 2022, the contractor of the first stage of work – the Tatarstan branch of the Russian Geographical Society, at the expense of a regional grant, conducted geographical studies in the catchment area of the Kazanka River and its tributaries of the 1st order, provided monitoring with daily sampling at three sites. The conducted studies have confirmed the negative impact of diffuse effluents. According to the results of the survey of the catchment area of the Kazanka river, more than 830 objects of negative impact were identified, among which most of them are objects of accumulation of livestock waste and disposal of solid municipal waste, plowing of land within the boundaries of the coastal protective strip.
Now the Institute of Ecology continues to analyze the collected data and conducts control field studies. The result of the research work will be the preparation of scientifically based recommendations to reduce diffuse pollution and improve the water quality of the Kazanka River.
The comprehensive work carried out on the inventory and environmental assessment of the natural resources of the islands of the Kuibyshev reservoir became the basis for the creation of the largest of all created reserves – the state nature reserve of regional significance of the landscape profile "Volga Expanses".
During the study, 325 objects were identified in the water area of the reservoir, limited to the settlements of Zelenodolsk and Teteevo, including 158 islands, 5 peninsulas and 162 partially flooded shallow waters. The total area of the protected areas amounted to more than 29 thousand hectares. Now control has been strengthened here and stricter requirements for recreation have been established, the protection regime of the reserve does not allow for new extraction of CUM.
The Ministry of Ecology has also ensured close cooperation with the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, jointly developing the most optimal and balanced ways to address environmental safety issues.
Within the framework of organized cooperation, this year Lomonosov Moscow State University has started developing a project for the "green" wastewater treatment of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim, the implementation of the project will increase the efficiency of water treatment generated in the technological process.
