In support of the national Ecology project, Operation Clean Air has been launched in Tatarstan

5 June 2024, Wednesday

From June 1 to September 30, specialists of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, together with inspectors of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan and the State Automobile Supervision Service of the Republic of Tatarstan, will carry out measures to identify excess pollutants in the exhaust gases of vehicles. During the operation period, it is planned to inspect more than 6 thousand cars.

All types of cars with an internal combustion engine are checked.

Last year, as part of the operation, 6886 vehicles were checked, of which 184 did not meet the requirements of toxicity and smokiness. 80% of the vehicles tested are passenger cars with gasoline engines. The largest percentage of vehicles with excess was found in trucks - 6.4% and in vehicles with a diesel engine – 5.3%.

The most environmentally friendly is gas-powered vehicles. The excess of these machines amounted to 1.9%.

According to the results of the analysis, there is a tendency to decrease the number of vehicles with excess: the percentage of vehicles of environmental classes 5 and 6 that do not comply with the standards is almost zero.

The gradual renewal of the republic's automobile fleet, as well as the sale of "eco-friendly" motor fuel at gas stations, has an impact on reducing cars with excess emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air. Thanks to the use of environmentally friendly fuels – compressed natural gas as motor fuel – the reduction of pollutant emissions in 2023 amounted to more than 1 thousand tons per year, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from cars reached 49 thousand tons of CO2 equivalent.

Over 11 years, the implementation of the State Program "Development of the gas engine fuel market in the Republic of Tatarstan" has reduced emissions of pollutants from motor vehicles by more than 23 thousand tons per year, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions has reached more than 1 million tons of CO2 equivalent.

Over the past 7 years, the number of electric vehicles in the republic has increased 200 times (from 5 to 1142). The fleet of public transport using electricity is constantly increasing. For example, in 2023, 30 modern trolleybuses were purchased in the Republic of Tatarstan, of which 25 units were received by Kazan and 5 by Almetyevsk.

The improvement of transport infrastructure also plays a significant role. In 2023, the works were completed and the Gorky Highway service drive from Nesmelov street to the Temple of all Religions was put into operation. Work continues on the reconstruction of the Gorky Highway with the introduction of a three-level transport interchange. Upon completion of the work, the capacity of the road section will increase to 11 thousand cars per hour. The construction of the Voznesensky Tract section from Gvardeyskaya St. to Pobedy Ave. has been completed. Construction work continues on the section from Pobedy Ave. to the M-7 highway. The work carried out has made it possible to increase the average speed of vehicles and the intensity of traffic, which helps to reduce emissions of pollutants from vehicles.

Let us recall that Operation Clean Air has been taking place in the republic since 1983. Last year, the Operation was carried out by all territorial departments of the Ministry in 13 municipal districts of the republic: traditionally at the Malinovka and Tula-1 posts, and in the districts – on highways. This year it is planned to expand the geography of the event. The purpose of the event is to monitor compliance with the standards for the content of pollutants in the exhaust gases of motor vehicles and to prevent the negative impact of vehicles on the atmospheric air.
