Alexander Shadrikov: "After the reclamation of the Samosyrov landfill, we no longer receive complaints about the air quality in that area"
Speaking at the State Duma with the annual report on the work of the Government, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, in particular, spoke about solutions in the field of ecology and environmental protection. He said that within the framework of the national Ecology project, about 200 objects of accumulated environmental damage have been eliminated throughout the country.
Among them is a landfill in the village of Prosti in the Nizhnekamsk district of the republic, as well as the reclamation of a landfill in Menzelinsk and the Samosyrovsky landfill in Kazan. "These are the largest objects of accumulated harm," said Alexander Shadrikov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan. – Liquidation work of the Samosyrovsky landfill was completed in 2023, its total cost was 872 million rubles."
The head of the Republican Ministry of Natural Resources recalls that the task of reclamation of Samosyrovo was set, first of all, by the residents of Kazan themselves. "In 2021 alone, our Ministry received more than 300 complaints about air quality. We were able to implement this facility in three years thanks to the support of the Head of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov and the Federal Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology. The project was highly appreciated by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Victoria Abramchenko: she noted that it is the flagship for the whole country. I am sure that the technologies that we used in the reclamation of the landfill will be applied in other regions of the country."
Alexander Shadrikov considers the well-being of the residents to be the main result of the project. "After the completion of Samosyrovsky landfill reclamation we no longer receive complaints about air quality from residents of this part of Kazan," he says. The minister recalled that the "Clean Country" was replaced by "Big cleaning up". Reclamation of landfills is not included in this federal project. Each landfill has an owner and remediation responsibilities are assigned to the operating organization.
