Within the framework of the federal project "Preservation of unique water bodies" of the national project "Ecology", an campaign was held to clean the shores and underwater part of Lake Karakul in Nizhnekamsk. The organizer was the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Tatarstan with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan

The order on the coastal zone was brought by members of the underwater research team named after Leonov, local activists, representatives of public organizations and concerned citizens. By joint efforts, a total of 500 m of the coastal territory was cleared, 60 bags of garbage were collected. The garbage from the bottom of the reservoir was picked up by divers: "Visibility was minimal, but we found pieces of plastic, and an interesting find was a weighty ring," said scuba diver Maxim Astakhov.

We recall that since the beginning of the year, more than 3 thousand km of coastlines have been cleaned under the national project "Preservation of Unique Water bodies", more than 19.5 cubic meters of garbage have been collected.

The next voluntary clean up will be held on July 9 at the Lesnoye Lake in Kazan. Also, eco-activists plan to clean the banks of the Volga River, the Kazanka River, the Deep and Emerald lakes.
