About the measures for clearing and straightening the riverbeds and overhaul of hydraulic structures were told today at a press conference in IA "Tatar-inform". The questions were answered by Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Insaf Galiullin and Head of the Department of Economy and Investment Activity of the Ministry Tagir Valiyev. "In the current year, 22 hydraulic structures on the territory of the republic are overhauled. These facilities are prepared for accident-free passage of water during the spring flood, which will protect the population from the negative impact of water and prevent possible damage," said Insaf Galiullin. During the works, 1,787.7 kilometers of the boundaries of water protection zones and coastal protective bands have been determined. With the purpose of informing citizens and legal entities of a special regime for the implementation of economic and other activities, 374 information signs have been established on the sites of water protection zones. Work was done to clarify the location of 16 sections of the coastal line of the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs and island systems within the boundaries of the Agryz, Aktanysh, Alekseev, Elabuga, Kama-Ustin, Mamadysh, Mendeleev, Menzelin, Nizhnekamsk, Rybno-Slobodsky, Spassky, Tetyush, Tukaev and Chistopol regions. On 6 rivers with a length of more than 5.0 km (Biya in the Apastovsky District, Stepnoy Zai in the Bugulma District, Menzel in the Sarmanovsky District, Malaya Sulcha in the Aksubaev District, Sabinka in the Sabinsk District, Kazanka in Kazan), streamline and dredging operations were performed. On 3 water bodies (lake in the Spassky District, a marshy part of the lake and the Maly Cheremshan River in the Alekseev District, a system of the Lebyazhye Lakes in Kazan), work was done on clearing and ecological rehabilitation. These environmental measures were carried out to protect the population from spring floods, create fire-fighting water supply and prevent possible damage from the negative impact of water.
