12 thousand fry of sterlet were released today in the Kuibyshev reservoir on the bank of Laishev district. The event was held within the framework of the Year of Ecology in Russia and the Year of Ecology and Public Spaces in the Republic of Tatarstan with the aim of restoring a population of particularly valuable fish species. “Tatarstan is one of the most prolific regions of the federal district, there are more than 36,000 water bodies on the territory of the republic. Our main goal is a rational and responsible approach to natural resources. An important state objective is the competent use, preservation, and augmentation of aquatic biological resources, the further development of fishing,” said Farid Abdulganiev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan. He noted that the Ministry is implementing a number of measures aimed at creating comfortable conditions for the habitat and reproduction of ichthyofauna. In turn, the head of the Laishev district, Mikhail Afanasyev, reported that 10,000 fry released today were also grown in the Laishev district. Sterlet breeds in pebbly and stony ground. In Tatarstan, mining of minerals in spawning areas is prohibited, Minister Farid Abdulganiev emphasized. To prevent violations, the Ministry of Ecology ordered to install a GLONASS system on each vessel and dredger since the beginning of this year. All who produce minerals on water are under the round-the-clock monitoring of ecologists. Also this year, according to the Minister of Ecology, a favourable spawning was ensured by regulation of the water level of the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk water reservoirs, which will contribute to the development of the fish industry of Tatarstan.
The event was held jointly with the Charitable Foundation of Fedor Konyukhov “Green Planet”.
