In Year of Ecology in Tatarstan, a program for wildlife conservation is implemented. Red-book listed deers and marals released today in forests of Rybno-Slobodsky district

A family of marals and spotted deers entered the Red Book found a new home today. Born in the nursery Rybno-Slobodsky district, animals were released today in the wild. “In 2014, the first livestock from the Altai Mountains was brought, among which there were 17 spotted deers and 24 marals,” says Alber Kamaliev, farm manager of the farm “Wild Farm”. Today there are more than a hundred animals. This year we expect birth of 20-30 animals.” Released marals and deers were born in Tatarstan. They are fully adapted to environmental conditions, experts say. According to Kamaliev, marals have a habit to return to the places where they were born. So the livestock that was born and grew up in Tatarstan will stay here. Tatarstan farmers adopted experience in Germany, the Czech Republic, Europe, and Moscow.

“The task of preserving the wild nature is set on the Year of Ecology by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, and the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Sergei Donskoy, – stressed Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Fayaz Shakirov. – In the framework of these tasks, families of marals and deers are released today into nature. They will live in the territory of the Shumbut reserve, located in the central part of the republic on the right bank of the Kama River. The project will enable to preserve biodiversity in the forests, increase the populations of animals listed in the Red Book.”

Head of Rybno-Slobodsky municipal district Ilham Valeev noted that the implementation of this project allows creating new jobs for the local residents. In the coming years, the municipality plans to develop eco-tourism.
