Every second Sunday of the first spring month marks the Day of Geodesy and Cartography. This is a professional holiday of people whose work helps build grand objects, build roads, power lines, and determine boundaries of land.
The surveyor is a specialist who gives the most accurate information about the terrain using a set of special instrumentals. An important role is played by cartographers and surveyors in construction and industry. Geologists and oil industry workers, machine builders and miners, pilots and drivers, builders and restorers are specialists who rely on the result of the cartographers work.
The celebration of the day of the geodesist and cartographer is not accidental for the first spring month. It was March 1720 that is considered the month of the emergence of the profession of cartography, when Emperor Peter I ordered the first cartographic surveys. However, the art of compiling geographical drawings was known back in the ancient Russian era. The first printed version of the map of Russia (map of the Moscow lands) was created on January 26, 1525.
