OnMarch 3 World Wildlife Day is celebrated. The main goal of the ecological holiday is a reminder of the diversity and beauty of wild flora and fauna, as well as the importance of careful treatment of them and the need to strengthen the fight against poaching.
The environmental day is timed to the adoption of the CITES Conventionby representatives of 80 countriesin Washington on 3 March 1973. This is an international agreement that protects about 5,000 species of animals and 28,000 plant species. Import, export, re-export and introduction from the sea of these representatives of flora and fauna are carried outsubject to special permits and certificates. Since the adoption of the Convention, no species under its protection has disappeared.
In the Republic of Tatarstan, 595 plant species and 214 animal species are included in the protected list. Representatives of flora and fauna that are subject to the threat of extinction are found in 154 specially protected natural sites of the republic.
