Tatarstan kids to compete forvouchersto“Artek”

Russian Geographic Society announced the All-Russian competition among students of educational institutions to participate in the shifts of children centers“Artek”, “Smena”, “Orlyonok”, “Ocean”. The competition is open to children 10-17 years old who are interested in geography, participants of various projects and expeditions, winners of contests and Olympiads on geography, ecology, ethnography, local history, and other subjects.

Qualifying round of the contest is held on the website of the contest (http://volunteer.rgo.ru) on the following dates:

- 2-25 February 2017 (for a trip to the children center “Smena”)

- 27 February - 9 April 2017 (for a trip to the children center “Orlyonok”)

- 27 February - 9 April (for a trip to the children center“Ocean”)

- April 10 - July 2, 2017 (for a trip to the children center“Artek”).

To participate, applicants must register on the website and send portfolio.

The selection criteria are:

1) Level of the child’sinterest;

2) Performance in the study, winnings and top places in the municipal, regional, inter-regional, national (nationwide), international contests, festivalson geography, ecology, ethnography and other subjects.

3) Participation in festivals, competitions, Olympiads on geography and related sciences, active participation in children and youth organizations and movements, participation in socially useful activities, including volunteering.

The winners will receive vouchers to one of the childrencenters. The shifts will take place in the periods:

March 30 - April 19, 2017 (“Smena”),

May 30/31 - 19/20 June 2017 (“Orlyonok”),

June 24 - July 14, 2017 (“Ocean”),

August 30/31 - 19/20 September (“Artek”).

The program of shifts includes meetings with well-known travellers, geographers, scientists, wildlife photographers and journalists. The young researchers will take part in scientific and educational adventure games, learn the basics of tourism and local history.
