January 11 – Day of National Reserves and Parks

Every year the Dayof National Reserves and Parksis marked in Russiaon January 11. The purpose of the event is to attract the people’s attention to the existing problems, to teach appreciating the natural diversity of a great country. For the first time this day was celebrated in 1997 on the initiative of the Center for Wildlife Conservation and World Wildlife Fund. And on January 11 the first in the Russian Empire State Reserve, called Barguzinsky,was created.

On the territory of Tatarstan, as in many areas throughout Russia, there are nature reserves and historical reserve museums that preserve the original state of the unique natural and historical places. The nature reserve fund of the Republic of Tatarstan includes more than 150 specially protected natural sites. To preserve the pristine natural beauty,it is plannedto create in Russia 11 new nature reserves, 20 national parks and 3 federal nature reservesto 2020.
