Works for participation in the city stage of the All-Russian contest “My small motherland: nature, culture, ethnicity”are to be submitteduntil December 16

The event is organized by the Education Department of Kazan and the CityChildren’s ecological and biological center in collaboration with environmental organizations. The contest is open to students of educational institutions aged from 12 to 18, who are interested in the study and conservation of natural and cultural heritage of their small motherland. Both individualand collective participationis allowed.

The contest is held in the following categories:

For students aged from 14 to 18 (at the time of the final):

• Humanitarian and environmental studies (teaching and research works dedicated to the study of the history of relations between ethnos and nature, reflection of nature in the ethnic groupculture, and the influence of ethnic, religious, and other traditions to the attitude to nature and use of natural resources);

• Traditional culture (works on reproduction of objects of material culture, such as clothing, utensils, food, etc., using natural materials, andthose reflecting natural objects and phenomena, as well as works on conservation and reproduction of non-material cultural heritage: songs, dances, games, rites, etc., which reflect relationship between ethnos and natural environment);

• Essayson the protection of nature and culture (articles, essays and other journalistic works on the problems of conservation of cultural and natural heritage and expressing personal understanding of the subject of relationships between ethnic life and natural environment).

 • Ecological and local history guides (eco-regional guides and routesdescriptions whichpresent the cultural and natural heritage of a small motherland);

For students aged from 12 to 13 (at the time of the final):

• Live symbol of the small motherland(paintings and other artworks (drawings, etc.) in which authors present“a living symbol of the small motherland”, and written explanation of the choice (composition), with the reasons why it was preferred: uniqueness or specificity for the region, interesting facts, links with local traditions and people life, etc.).

The purpose is to raise awareness in children and young people to the natural and cultural environment, tolerance and respect for the cultures of other ethnic groups living in the territory of Russia.
