20 October 2016, Thursday

An ecological campaign on cleaning of the waste from the coastal area of the Kama River was held in Chistopol. The event included fellow workers of the Volga-Kama Territorial Department under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, representatives of the Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, representatives of the "Unified Russia" Party, as well as fellow workers of the Municipal Executive Committee, students of an agricultural vocational school n.a. G. Usmanov and the citizens who just care. "In general, we are satisfied with the results of the campaign. And it is not the extent of the cleaned coastline that matters. We believe it is not the main aim of the campaign. It is more important to make people see that they shouldn't treat nature as thoughtlessly as they do. It is important to show that our rivers can be beautiful and clean. Maybe people will see how clean it is here, and maybe it will stop them from throwing bottles, glasses and food packages", acknowledged ecological specialists. "This campaign is held in Chistopol under the slogan 'Pick up after yourself'", told the Head of the Local Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Sergey Saleev, - "We actively involve young people in the campaign, including those from the youth department of the underwater research team. We foster in our children careful attitude to nature. If several years ago we had only 5-6 persons who knew how to dive, today there are more than twenty of those". By the way, the divers submerged to the bottom of the Kama River and removed piles of various waste from there, first of all, algae, since this year due to hot weather they were massively growing making the water in the Kama River green. "We could not stay out of this campaign", explained the Head of the Municipal Executive Committee Victor Shurygin. - "It is one thing to talk about making everything clean, and a totally different thing to take litter bags and pick up the trash yourself. We thought that it would be a good sign to set personal example". The campaign aimed at sanitary cleaning of the shores of water bodies and maintenance of such order, as well as development of public activity and careful attitude of citizens to nature.
