The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan carries out activities aimed at determination of the causes of mass death of fish in the lake of the Victory Park. The possibility of discharge of polluted sewage waters has been excluded. The Central Specialized Inspection of Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology drew water samples from several parts of the water body. The average value of oxygen content made up 1 mg/l (normal value is 6-8 mg/l threshold allowable concentration for fisheries). The content of hydrogen sulfide was found to exceed the normal value by thousand times. Biodegradation of blue-green algae was the cause of mass death, according to the experts, which entailed absorption of oxygen and release of hydrogen sulfide.
