Farid Abdulganiev: "In a scientific fashion it is fascine, in Russian - faggot, and in Tatar - chiten". The Minister for Ecology inspected the way of shore protection in Laishevo district.

"Year after year the water rises and washes out the shore, and we are scared for our houses", feel anxious the citizens of Makarovka village, Laishevo district located on the shore of the River Kama. This year, despite high water level, we managed to avoid shore destruction. Local authorities decided to settle the matter the same old way - they stretched 50 meters of the shore that was mostly susceptible to destruction with fascine. One day of heavy work and the results didn't keep anyone waiting, efficacy and reliability of the method were appraised as early as this spring. "The ingenious is always simple. It is done quite quickly, the way of interweaving of willow branches produces the effect that, in general, protects the shore", acknowledged the Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Farid Abdulganiev, during inspection of the coastal area in Makarovka Village. - "This spring the water was so high that it hit the ultimate mark, but inspite of all that, the fascine made as a single row saved the shore of the Kama. The function of this fascine is to protect the shore from being washed out, and we see that it coped with it perfectly well. All this works - the water penetrates, but at the same time no strong wave hits the shore, so it is not destructed. We won't be able to manage all the shores without cutoff walls and concrete - the conditions vary along with geology, and, for instance, we can't hold dams using this method. But considering the fact that Tatarstan is abundant in water, there are about 37 thousand water bodies on the territory of the Republic, so I am sure that the experience of Laishevo will be used in other regions as well.
