Ecological specialists announced today the possible reason for mass death of fish in the Kazanka River. The Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Farid Abdulganiev, commented on the situation: "Starting August 1st, the work on control over the state of the Kazanka River has been enhanced. After receiving the information, we drew additional samples, and currently no chemical parameters in water have been exceeded. Suffocation of fish was registered not only in the Kazanka River, but also in certain other water bodies whereto no industrial waste is discharged. The main version that we adhere to is the heat wave. It could have promoted development of algae that release toxins while rotting, which caused mass death of fish. The situation has been taken under control, and the monitoring measures are continued. An outline map of the coastal area of the Kazanka River was elaborated by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, which indicates the list of companies and organizations, from the territory whereof storm and industrial sewage waters are discharged. No parameters have been exceeded.
As a reminder, the information on mass death of fish in the Kazanka River was received on August 5th. Fellow workers of the Ministry of Ecology, experts of the Central Specialized Inspection for Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, representatives of the Kazan Interdistrict Nature Protection Prosecutor's Office and the Department for the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency visited the site. Experts of the laboratory under the Ministry instrumentally sampled natural water from the sites of accumulation of dead fish. Fellow workers of the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency sampled and visually counted the fish that floated to the surface, and then they estimated the damage inflicted by mass death. Last weekend, the work was carried out in accordance with the outline map of the eco-analytical control, within the framework whereof the monitoring of the quality of water in the water body is carried out.
The topic was announced today during the press conference at the Information Agency "Tatar-inform". Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources - Chief State Inspector of the Republic of Tatarstan for nature protection, Fayaz Shakirov, acknowledged that an operative group was created to inspect the whole water area of the Kazanka River from Arsk district to Kazan. Last weekend, ecological specialists thoroughly inspected the whole river. All potential sites of waste discharge (the list and the map whereof were created during preparation for the World Water Championship in the capital of Tatarstan) turned out to be perfectly clean. "We shut out the possibility of discharge of sewage waters from any company or even storm sewage waters, since there was no rain during inspection. Our analyses did not show exceedance of any parameters", informed Fayaz Shakirov.
