Night lectures on ecology are awaiting Tatar citizens on July 20 th They will tell about the modern science using the language accessible for the general public

One of the most large-scale events on science popularization in Russia will take place in Kazan on July 20th Another "'Night' Campaign" will be held at Kazan Federal University within the framework of the "PRO SCIENCE at KFU" cycle. This time, the information on the modern science will be provided using the language accessible for the general public by the Institute for Ecology and Nature Use under the Kazan Federal University and the Institute of the Fundamental Medicine and Biology under the KFU. At the Microbiology Department the guests will have an opportunity to familiarize with a unique world of microorganisms through a microscope. The citizens will be able to find about "in vitro" cell growing at the department of botany and physiology of plants, and they will even try to grow their own plant. Complex topics will be conveyed as a play. For instance, the basics of pharmacology will be conveyed in a format of an intellectual quest. During the "Night of Science" the guests won't be just passive listeners - they will become active researchers. All who feel like it will be able to evaluate the quality of brought water samples, then they will measure the level of nitrates in vegetables and popular juices, they will evaluate the extent of emission from mobile phones of various brands, and they will learn how to determine air humidity, wind velocity and direction. The leading scientists of the University - medical specialists, biologists, ecological specialists and climate scientists - will deliver 12 scientific lectures. The guests will be able to find out everything about bacteria, myths and reality about stem cells, the riddles of a human genome, biotechnologies for the environment protection; they will understand how and why the scientists make "cyborgs" from cells, and what are the challenges and threats to the climate of the Earth.
