11 June 2016, Saturday

The large-scale campaign on cleaning of Glubokoe Lake was held today in Kirov District of Kazan. About thousand Tatar citizens united in the nature protection cause including ecological specialists, divers, bike riders, social activists and caring citizens of the Republic. The event has become a tradition for the representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Tatar Branch of the Russian Geographical Society. As it was acknowledged by the First Deputy Minister for Ecology, Rustem Kamalov, this is a unique place - rarely can we see such beauty when there is mixed forest around the lake including coniferous and deciduous trees. It is not surprising that the territory of Glubokoe Lake is a favorite place for recreation. "I myself numerous times took part in the cleaning of the unique water body, and I have always been surprised with the extent of pollution of the lake including bottles, bags and other litter. I would like to urge all the citizens of the Republic to maintain cleanliness, especially considering that all the necessary arrangements have been made", acknowledged Rustem Kamalov.  Chairperson of the Tatar Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Dmitry Shiller, supported the ecological specialist: "I wish everyone learned to respect and love oneself. A person who respects him/herself will not allow to do stupid things towards nature, he/she will not tolerate living in dirt. And those who came to participate in the campaign today, show through their participation the desire to live in a clean city. Shiller acknowledged that the amount of participants grows year after year, while the amount of collected bags of litter decreases.

Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, divers of the Tatar Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, representatives of the Academy of Creative Youth of Tatarstan, the association of bike riders and hard-of-hearing adolescents learning to dive within the framework of the social project "Expanding the boundaries" joined the campaign. The campaign was held within the framework of the Year of water protection areas in Tatarstan and devoted to the International Day for purification of water bodies.
