April 15 - The Ecological Knowledge Day

A series of nature protection campaigns and events will be organized in the framework of the Day of Ecological Knowledge under the auspices of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan.  Students of Kazan Vocational School of Communications will arrange tomorrow spring cleaning of the territory of a boarding school No. 4 (11 Zarya str.), students of Kazan River Vocational School will clean the coastal area of the Kazanka River from litter, students of Kazan Innovation University will hold a Saturday work campaign in the Park of the Newly-weds, while pupils of School No. 135 of Kazan will visit a Center of energy-saving technologies under Kazan State Energy University.

The Ecological Knowledge Day is celebrated each year on April 15thin various countries. During the United Nations Conference on Environment held on this day in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the governments of various countries were urged to improve general ecological education. The holiday aims at promotion of ecology-oriented knowledge, information of public on the state of things in the field of ecological safety, and on the state of the environment, as well as at upbringing and education of a citizen who can think in an ecology-oriented manner.

This holiday has been celebrated in Russia since 1996. It gives a start to the annual All-Russian campaign "Days of protection of the environment from ecological hazards" held up to the World Environment Protection Day (June 5th).
