A Day of Birds at Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden

Today, students of Raifa Special Vocational Training School No. 1 met with representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan and a Zoo and Botanical Garden; the meeting was devoted to the International Day of Birds.

It's no coincidence that the students were invited to the meeting - over the last four years they have been actively participating in nature protection campaigns, both practical and ecological&educational, carried out by the Ministry of Ecology; moreover, each year they have been awarded with prizes in the campaign "Grackles have come". Birdhouses and nesting boxes made by children are easily distinguished from work of other contestants - they are made in compliance with all the rules, from natural materials, and they are suitable for the birds to live in.

Elena Gilmizyanova, the leading specialist of the Department of Ecological Education and Interaction with Public Organizations under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, believes that victories of these children are logical. Living near the Raifa Forest, students of the Vocational Training School get a chance to communicate and help fellow workers of the Volga-Kama Nature Biosphere Reserve. Together, they carry out nature protection campaigns cleaning the territory of the tree nursery, the adjacent territories and etc. Children also help the Raifa Monastery. Such communication broadens the mind of children, so they actively responded to questions of the quiz checking the knowledge of the birds' world and their behavior, which was a part of a cognitive program at Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden. Moreover, fellow workers of the Zoo and Botanical Garden held a tour for the children.

Students of the Vocational Training School presented the Ministry of Ecology and a Zoo and Botanical Garden with 50 new birdhouses that soon will become homes for migrating birds at Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden, as well as at landscaped areas of Kirovsky and Moscovsky districts of Kazan.
