Farid Abdulganiev: “Assurance of rational and ecologically responsible use of energy and energy resources promotes ecologically sustainable development of the economy of Tatarstan”

The conference “Ecology and energy efficiency” was held today at the exhibition center “Kazan Fair” in the framework of theXVI International symposium “Energy and resource efficiency and energy saving” and the XVII International specialized exposition “Energetics. Cost-effective use of resources”.  Moderators of the event included the Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Farid Abdulganiev, First Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustem Kamalov, and the UNIDO project lead in the Russian Federation, Boris Melnichuk.In his opening speech, Farid Abdulganiev acknowledged that the Republic of Tatarstan takes one of the leading positions among constituent entities of the Russian Federation with regard to solution of problemson energy and resource efficiencyat the system and software level. Augmentation of production potential in petrochemical, chemical, exploration and production sectors, inmechanic engineering, as well as development of transport infrastructure and increase in the amount of motor vehicles require implementation of complex, system measures aimed atassurance of rational and ecologically responsible use of energy and energy resources, which ultimately promotes sustainable development of the economy of Tatarstan.At the end of his speech, Head of the Ministry of Ecology reminded that the year 2016 was announced in the Republic of Tatarstan as the year of water protection areas, while the next one will be the Year of Ecologyin the Russian Federation. Considering these key events,the Minister addressed and urged everyoneto enhance joints efforts in protection of the environment of Tatarstan.

                Experts of the leading industrial companies of the Republic of Tatarstan and scientists from various regions of the Russian Federation participated in the event.Participants of the conference discussed the matters related to implementation of the energy efficiency programs, as well as further enhancement in the efficient use of fuel-and-power resources. The following reports were presented in the framework of the conference:

- Energy-saving technology for the recovery of wastes andeffluent sludges;

- The activity of “Tatneft” PJSC in the field of environment protection and ecological safety assurance;

- Solution of ecology-related matters and the issues pertaining to energy efficiency at a newoil refinery plant by the example of “TANEKO” JSC;

- Substantial legal framework for the regulation of discharge of green-house gases in the Russian Federation: risks and possibilities for the Republic of Tatarstan;

- The system for collection ofmercurial lamps and used batteries from the population;

- Innovation of the biotechnology for purification of sewage waters, and etc.

    An agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Federal Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “Kazan State Energy University”was signed in the framework of the conference.The cooperation aims at elaboration of an efficient mechanism for interaction on the issues pertaining to ecological safety assurance, solution of the relevant ecology-related matters, preservation of bio-diversity, prevention of negative impact of economic and other activity on the environment by participation in the development, implementation and control of educational programs in the field of ecological monitoring, ecological upbringing and enlightenment of the population, as well as hosting of ecology-oriented campaigns and events.
