Participants of the expedition “The Polar Circle” returned to Kazan in triumph

Members of the expedition “The Polar Circle” (research and development team of the Russian Geographical Society) arrivedtoday in Kazan by train. Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Fayaz Shakirov, journalists, representatives of public organizations, and members of the sports society “Dynamo” greeted them at the railway station. During the expedition that lasted for a month, Kazan divers set a record at the White Sea with regard to ice diving, having submerged to 102 meters. Moreover, the divers tested domestic experimental equipmentused for submersion and collected data for the S.M.Kirov Military Medical Academy.The expedition to the White Sea is a part of a large-scale project “13 Seas of Russia”, and it is a key stage of the preparation for the expedition to the Arctic Region.

The project “13 Seas of Russia” started this July 1st to study Russian seas using Russian underwater breathing equipment. The first stage consisted in an expedition to the Barents Sea, where underwater researchers of Tatarstan participated in the deepest submersion of a diver at the Subarctic, namely 111 meters. Earlier, the members set three world records:

- the first submersion at the Pole of Cold;

- the deepest submersion at the Pole of Cold;

- the deepest submersion near the shores of Antarctica.

As a reminder, a series of events is implemented in the Republic by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan together with the Tatar Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, in particular, cleaning of water bodies, the “Clean shores” campaign, a project related to the study and inventory of sunken vessels with their further surfacing.
