3 February 2016, Wednesday

Fellow workers of the Central Specialized Inspection of Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan announced the results of chemical and toxicological analyses of natural water samples drawn from the lake on the territory of Zalesny village. Earlier, an address was received from the citizens regarding pollution of this water body, and discharge of sewage waters with characteristic odor was revealed. Air samples were drawn on site. Using a mobile ecological laboratory, such indicators as nitrogen oxide, nitrogen dioxide, ammonia, carbon oxide, sulphur dioxide, and total hydrocarbons were tested. No exceedance of maximum allowable one-time concentrations was detected in the air.  Following the results of the tests carried out at a fixed-site laboratory, the maximum allowable concentrations (for fisheries) were exceeded for the following indicators: ammonium ions – by 24 times, phosphates – by 14.75 times, phenols – by 16 times, and the maximum allowable average annual concentration for the chemical oxygen demand was exceeded by 2.8 times, which is indicative of pollution of the water body with domestic waste waters. Inspectors of the Central Territorial Department under the Ministry of Ecology initiated an administrative investigation to identify the persons involved in this violation. Moreover, a formal request was referred to the Executive Committee of the Municipal Unit of Kazan to provide the information on the underground utility lines located near this lake.

As a reminder, the Republican Public Ecological Reception Office operates at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan.
