The Minister for Ecology, Farid Abdulganiev, ordered to enhance the work pertaining to revelation and prevention of illegal snow deposits

Today, inspectors of the Central Territorial Department under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan conducted a raid in the Volga district of Kazan to reveal illegal snow deposits. “Our task today is to ensure that in spring, when snow melts, no reagents, litter or other pollutants get into the soil or together with ground waters into our water bodies: rivers, lakes, and springs”, acknowledged the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Abdulganiev. He also said that snow should be removed to the specially allotted places, where all the relevant requirements are met. Today, we have 20 such places in Kazan including 6 snow melting stations and 14 snow landfills. They are located in close proximity to water protection areas with hard surface; the territory along the perimeter is fenced, there is a bunded area, and the extent of dropped snow is fully registered by the workers. 
In Salmachi village (Tsentralnaya str.) ecological specialists revealed an illegal landfill to the extent of 60 cubic meters – snow was removed to the territory, where the abovementioned requirements hadn’t been met. Inspectors registered dumping of snow, and the owner of the KAMAZ truck caught in the act will be subject to punishment under Article 3.6 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Tatarstan “Violation of municipal rules of beautification of the territories of settlements and city districts, as well as municipal rules of waste management”. An administrative investigation has been initiated in order to identify other persons involved in the violation. 
In order to check the snow for reagents, heavy metals, combustive and lubricating materials, salt-and-sand mixture, oil products and other pollutants, specialists of the Central Specialized Inspection of Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan drew the samples of snow in the area of the illegal landfill.
All in all, 12 illegal snow deposit sites have been so far detected in Tatarstan.
