The VI meeting of the working group of the Russian-Chinese water management commission opened today at Kazan Town Hall. The meeting is held to discuss the rational use and protection of transboundary waters. Members of the working group were greeted by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Artem Sidorov. He acknowledged importance and relevance of interaction between Russia and China on solution of matters regarding prevention of negative transboundary water exposure, prevention of emergency situations and maintenance of hydro-technical utilities in the appropriate technical state. Tatarstan is the most abundant in water region of the Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation, as it was acknowledged by the Minister of Ecology of Tatarstan, and due to this fact quality and rational use of water resources is the shaping factor of social and economic well-being of the Republic.
According to the Head of the Russian party of the working group, Deputy Head of the Federal Water Resources Agency Vadim Nikanorov, the greatest interest was shown by their colleagues from China in the water management system as well as dams, bank protection of the coastal area and protection facilities. He acknowledged that it was no wonder Tatarstan had been chosen as the venue for the VI meeting of the working group of the Russian-Chinese commission, it is planned to familiarize with the system of management of the Kuybyshev water reservoir – the largest one on the territory of Russia. Head of the Chinese party of the working group, Deputy Director of the Main Institute for Planning and Engineering of Water Management Systems and Hydropower Industry under the Ministry of Water Economy of the People’s Republic of China Lee Yuanyuan distinguished 4 main trends with regard whereof successful cooperation is ensured between Russia and China in the field of water resources management, namely hydrological monitoring, exchange of ideas regarding the use of water resources, protected water resources on transboundary rivers and water management education.
The VI meeting on water resources management of the joint Russian-Chinese commission will last until August 28th.
