Members of the expedition “The Russian Arctic Circle” returned to Kazan today by train. Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Vasil Shaykhraziev, First Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustem Kamalov met them at the railway station. All in all, 18 members of the underwater research and development team created by the Russian Underwater Sports Federation and the Russian Geographical Society participated in the expedition. The project “13 Russian seas” was elaborated and implemented by the underwater research and development team of the Russian Geographical Society and its branch in the Republic of Tatarstan under the aegis of the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Russian Underwater Sports Federation, the Russian Underwater Activity Confederation and the “Aviation equipment” Holding. An independent expedition camp was located directly on the island that has been uninhabited for more than 8 years now (near the Teriberka village of Murmansk region). The team members were engaged in collection of data on the state of flora and fauna of the Barents Sea at various depths, they practiced the teamwork technique during deep diving, and on the threshold of the 16rg World Aquatics Championship of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) they delivered the Water World Cup capsule to the bottom of the Barents Sea. On one of the last days members of the expedition headed by Dmitry Shiller participated in the deepest submersion of divers in the Arctic Circle to the depth of 111 meters using Russian equipment. The record was registered by Bojana Ostoyic – member of the Jacques Yves Cousteau’s team, member of the Board of Directors of the World Underwater Confederation.
The large-scale expedition project of the underwater research and development team of the Russian Geographical Society n.a. A.A. Leonov “13 Russian seas” started in Kazan on July 1st. It is meant to study seas washing Russia at record-breaking depths and to test Russian underwater equipment.
