Saturday Work Campaign was held on the territory of Nizhny Kaban Lake

 On May 23, 2015, fellow workers of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan Town Hall, proponents of the movement “BUDETCHISTO” (“It will be clean”), divers of the regional department of the Russian Geographical Society in Tatarstan, students of the Institute of Economics, Management and Law, Kazan (Volga) Federal University, as well as fellow workers of surrounding companies and citizens of Kazan cleaned up the territory of Nizhny Kaban Lake. They cleaned the coastline and the bottom of the lake from litter. The Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Artem Sidorov participated in the Saturday work campaign. He acknowledged that in the course of the two-month sanitary and ecological campaign the work has been carried out both in the framework of the state ecological surveillance (prevention, detection and registration of violations of the nature protection legislation), and with regard to events related to cleaning of public territories. Lake Kaban is a place of interest in Kazan, and it has already become one of the most popular places both among citizens and guests of the capital. According to Artem Sidorov, the task is to preserve cleanliness and order of the places of recreation of Tatar citizens in coastal areas. Special attention will also be paid to this matter in 2016 – the year declared by the Interim President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov as the Year of Water Protection Areas. The Minister of Ecology reminded that great work was carried out in the framework of preparation for the Universiade-2013 on improvement of the quality of water in Kaban Lake. Today, no industrial wastes are discharged into the lake, and the Central Specialized Inspection of Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan regularly monitors the quality of water. Today, samples were collected once again, and experts tested water quality using an express laboratory of the Central Specialized Inspection of Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan. The mobile laboratory allows to carry out analysis with regard to 15 indicators including content of ammonium, sulfates, nitrites, oil products and so on. The analysis showed that water quality in Lake Kaban corresponds with norms, and no indicator exceeds any limit. The oxygen level is also within tolerance.     

The Minister Artem Sidorov told that such measures will also be implemented in other municipal formations of the Republic of Tatarstan, and he acknowledged positive work of the voluntary ecological movement “BUDETCHISTO”. In the nearest future, Saturday work campaigns will be held on the territories of Sredny Kaban Lake and Verkhny Kaban Lake.
