International Day of Forests

The International Day of Forests or the World Forest Protection Day is celebrated today. By the decision of the UN General Assembly, as of 2013 this holiday is officially celebrated on March 21st.

The problem of preservation of forest and its wealth is among the most important modern ecological tasks for all countries in the world. Forests are lungs of our planet, and they have priceless ecological, social and economic meaning they participate in climate formation on the planet, provide with oxygen, process harmful discharges, save water resources, serve ashabitat of various plants and animals, provide food and healthy environment for people, help preserve soil fertility and landscapes. The main task of the International Day of Forests lies in attraction of public attention to the problem of forest preservation, and informing on importance of forest ecosystems, their genuine state, as well as main measures for their protection and reclamation.
