Waste waters are no longer dischargedinto Lake Kaban

On February 11, 2015, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan received an address from citizens of Kazan regarding discharge of polluted waste waters into Nizhny Kaban. Inspectors of the Central Territorial Department andexperts of the Central Specialized Inspection for Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecologyvisited the scene together with representatives of Kazan Nature Protection Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Kazan Executive Committeeto detect discharge of waste waters from Kazan storm drainage. On February 12th, inspectors of the Central Territorial Department andexperts of the Central Specialized Inspection for Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecologyimplemented measures on inspection of Kazan storm drainage in the area of Lake Kaban together with representatives of Kazan Nature Protection Prosecutor’s Office, Kazan Executive Committee, and Municipal Unitary Enterprise “City Beautification”. Kazan storm drainage was inspected using a special video camerain order to detect the source of discharge, following whereof it was found that the site ofremedial maintenance on the intersection of the streets of Tatarstan and Sh. Mardzhani was the source of discharge.The work was carried out by KSU “Hydrospetsstroy” CJSC.As for right now, the work has been suspended and, thus, waste watersare no longer discharged. Experts of the Central Specialized Inspection for Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan drew samples of waste and natural waters, following the results whereof the damage inflicted on the water facility will be estimated. At present, administrative proceedings are carried out against offenders and persons who tolerated discharge of polluted waste waters into Lake Kaban.
