The meeting brought together representatives of key ministries, leading industrial enterprises, and scientific and educational institutions of the republic to discuss the results achieved and plan further strategies for the region's climate policy.
According to the results of the work for 2025, Tatarstan confirmed its leading position among Russian regions in the field of carbon footprint reduction. The Republic is demonstrating significant success thanks to an integrated approach and the introduction of innovative technologies in industry and energy.
Olga Manidicheva, Deputy Minister of Ecology, presented the report "The Path to Carbon Neutrality of the Republic of Tatarstan" to the IWG participants, outlining priority areas for the region's development, taking into account global environmental trends.
Maria Kozhevnikova, Deputy Director for Scientific Activities at the Institute of Ecology, Biotechnology and Nature Management of KFU, shared the results of the work of the Carbon—Volga carbon landfill and the scientific community in solving decarbonization problems.
Of particular interest were the presentations by representatives of the region's leading enterprises. Petr Kubarev, Head of the Environmental Protection Department of PJSC Tatneft, spoke about the company's innovative approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Tatneft is currently the regional leader in the number of registered climate projects in the national register of carbon units.
Alexander Zhalyuk, Head of Ecology at Kazanorgsintez, Roman Yemelyushin, Chief Expert of the company's Ecology Department, and Tatiana Romanenkova, Senior Manager of SIBUR's Climate Solutions unit, spoke about SIBUR's work in reducing its carbon footprint.
The total volume of SIBUR's climate portfolio includes the implementation of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 11.3 million carbon units.
"We have a diverse portfolio of projects, the largest has been implemented at Nizhnekamskneftekhim, its potential is 5.7 million carbon units over the entire period, and just a month ago 1.9 million units were produced," said Tatiana Romanenkova, Senior Manager of SIBUR's Climate Solutions unit.
A new climate project is being implemented at the Kazanorgsintez enterprise — modernization of isopropylbenzene production. The renovation and reconstruction allowed for a 20% reduction in emissions into the atmosphere, as well as a 68% reduction in energy consumption at this facility. The climate project has received a positive validation report and is currently being registered in the Register of the Russian Federation.
Thanks to these and other initiatives of SIBUR, the region holds a leading position in terms of the number of issued carbon units registered in the Russian registry.
The award ceremony was held at the end of the meeting. Letters of appreciation from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan were awarded to Maria Vladimirovna Kozhevnikova (KFU), Peter Nikolaevich Kubarev (PJSC Tatneft) and Alexander Vladimirovich Zhalyuk (SIBUR's Kazanorgsintez enterprise) for their contribution to the development of environmental and climate initiatives in the region.
