A special ceremony of awarding the winners of the Snow Leopard children's drawings, crafts and posters contest took place in Kazan. The event took place within the walls of the Zoological Museum and Herbarium named after E. A. Eversman of Kazan Federal University.
The competition, organized by the Snow Leopard Scientific Center and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, brought together young talents from different regions of Russia. 600 works from schoolchildren from Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Mordovia and Mari El were presented to the jury. 42 works reached the finals, and 13 were recognized as the best in various nominations. The guys showed their imagination by creating unique works of art from paints, plasticine, pencils, cereals and other materials.
The award ceremony was held by distinguished guests: Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov, General Director of TAIF-NK Gas Station LLC Ilshat Fattakhov, General Director of Nefis Cosmetics JSC Dina Lavrikova, Director of the Snow Leopard Scientific Center Vyacheslav Dolgov, Executive Director of UPC Tatneft− Ak Bars LLC Mansur Usmanov Rifgat Shagidullin, Director of the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Anna Iskhakova, Director of External Communications and Government Relations at Tatspirtprom JSC, and Farida Khamidullina, Vice Rector for Legal Affairs and Property Relations at KFU.
Opening the event, Minister of Ecology Alexander Shadrikov told reporters about the importance of the project for the republic: "Tatarstan is engaged in the snow leopard. In 2018, we started implementing the Ecology national project, now it is the national Environmental well-being project, there is a separate federal program "Biodiversity Conservation". Tatarstan's initiative was supported by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and we entered this federal program with a project to create a snow leopard center." He also noted that with the support of the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, and Tatneft, the Snow Leopard Center was built in Altai, which is one of the best scientific centers in the world. "Today's competition promotes the popularization of environmental knowledge among children," the minister stressed.
In his welcoming speech, Rifgat Shagidullin, Director of the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, drew attention to the deep symbolism of the snow leopard for Tatarstan: "The snow leopard is a symbol of our republic. The white leopard is depicted on the coat of arms as a mythical creature that came to us from our ancestors. He represents strength, nobility, independence, and protection of his native land. The white leopard represents Tatarstan as a region that not only honors traditions, but also looks to the future with confidence."
Presenting awards to the youngest participants, Farida Khamidullina, Vice Rector of KFU, noted: "It is right that we involve children in this holiday. It is our duty to save the planet, so we have a great responsibility towards children."
Ilshat Fattakhov, General Director of TAIF-NK Gas Station LLC, said in his speech when awarding the winners: "Our company, TAIF, is socially oriented, actively participates in important national projects, paying special attention to the environment and natural resources. Agreements are scheduled to be signed today, which is especially symbolic on Snow Leopard Day. Only through joint efforts will we be able to preserve all the wealth of our world and pass it on to future generations."
Dina Lavrikova, General Director of Nefis Cosmetics JSC, expressed gratitude to the organizers and mentors: "First of all, I would like to congratulate you on a holiday directly related to Tatarstan, Snow leopard Day! I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers of the contest, because it is always difficult to choose the best of the best. Also, many thanks to the parents and teachers who inspired and guided the children! The competition is organized in a way that you always have to choose the best one, so we choose!"
Anna Iskhakova, Director of External Communications at Tatspirtprom JSC, addressed the young participants: "This competition showed not only the talents of the children, but also their understanding of the main task, the task of unity to save our nature. I want to address the youngest participants of the contest and say: we are very involved in the life of our planet, and we are responsible for the animal world, for its diversity and development."
The ceremony culminated with the awarding of the winner and the winner of the main prize – a trip to Altai to the Scientific Center "Snow Leopard". He became Matvey Darin, a student of Lyceum No. 182 in Kazan. The prize was presented to the winner personally by the Minister of Ecology Alexander Shadrikov.
He thanked all the participants.: "We see the enthusiasm of the children. I am sure that the scale of this competition will be expanded in the future. I would like to express my gratitude to parents and teachers for instilling in children a love of nature. As I have always said and say, those people who treat nature and the world well will definitely treat people well. You foster kindness in your children, and for this I am especially grateful to you!"
