On October 23, the International Snow Leopard Day, Kazan will host a special awarding ceremony for the winners of the Snow Leopard children's drawings, crafts and posters contest. The competition is organized by the autonomous non-profit organization "Scientific Research Center for the Conservation of Biological Diversity "Snow Leopard".
More than 600 schoolchildren from Tatarstan, Udmurtia, Mordovia, Chuvashia and Mari El applied for participation. The guys created unique predator works from paints, cardboard, plasticine, cereals and other materials. The best paintings and crafts that made it to the finals of the competition will be presented at a special exhibition.
The winner of the competition will be selected in three categories: junior (grades 1-4), middle (grades 5-9) and senior (grades 10-11). The creators of the best works will receive valuable gifts, and the main prize will be an excursion to the Altai Scientific Center "Snow Leopard".
Within the framework of the award ceremony, three cooperation agreements will be signed between the Snow Leopard Scientific Center and leading enterprises of Tatarstan.
The contest is part of a comprehensive effort to preserve and restore the snow leopard population, which is being conducted by the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan on behalf of the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, in support of the national project "Environmental Well-being". An important step in this work was the creation in 2022 of a Scientific Center for the Conservation of Biological Diversity with a priority species for study — the snow leopard.
The relevance of this work was confirmed by the large-scale international forum "Study and Conservation of the snow leopard in the world. Joining forces" held in March 2025 in Kazan. Experts from 12 countries of the snow leopard habitat took part in it.
