The Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the support of SIBUR and jointly with the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, is launching the practical implementation of a pilot project for the reconstruction of forest plantations along the Kazanka River. This project is a new stage in the comprehensive scientific and research work on the ecological rehabilitation of water bodies, which has been underway since 2022.

The project was initiated based on the findings of large-scale research conducted by the All-Russian Research Institute "Ecology" (Moscow), the Russian Geographical Society, Kazan Federal University, the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Institute of Water Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences  (Moscow). Scientific work has confirmed that the creation of protective water protection forest belts is the most effective method of combating diffuse pollution of water bodies resulting from runoff from agricultural and industrial lands.

During the first stage of the work, reforestation will be carried out on an area of 4.18 hectares using oak and spruce seedlings in the Urnyak rural settlement of the Arsky municipal district. The event is scheduled for October 10, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, PJSC Kazanorgsintez, and the A. I. Shchepovskikh Regional Public Foundation  and GBU "Arsky forestry" will take part in the tree planting.

The pilot project is of federal importance, as its results will form the basis of an action plan to improve the condition of rivers throughout Russia as part of the national Environmental Well-being project. It is expected that the developed set of measures will be replicated to other water bodies of the country.
