Today, the All-Russian clean-up day "Green Russia" and the "Water of Russia" campaign of the national project "Ecological Well-being" took place in Kazan on Lake Izumrudny. The clean-up day was timed to coincide with the marathon "In the Footsteps of Good Deeds" in support of the Clean Heritage Olympics. 476 Tatarstan citizens took part in it, including employees of ministries and departments, students and volunteers. As part of the clean-up, not only the shore of the lake was cleaned, but also the bottom of the reservoir. Divers from the Tatarstan branch of the Russian Geographical Society lifted several bags of plastic bottles from the bottom. There was even a plastic tub and paddles among the finds.
The eco-campaign was held in the format of a "Cleanliness Marathon". 119 teams collected 209 bags of garbage within an hour, sorting it along the way.
It turned out to be 49 bags of plastic, 50 with glass, 29 with metal. 81 bags of mixed waste were also collected, 8 tires and 42 kg of bulky waste were found.
As noted by the Minister of Ecology Alexander Sharikov: "We see how such an event unites all Tatarstan citizens. The republic participates in the competition "Water Russia", "Green Russia". We started with a figure of 54,000 people per year. And last year we completed the number of 355 thousand residents. Today we can sum up that together we have cleared 8,400 km of coastlines, 361,000 residents went out on clean-up days. Ecology unites us."
Dmitry Shiller, Chairman of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Tatarstan, spoke about the importance of such environmental campaigns:
"Each of us, coming and going to the reservoirs, changes our attitudes towards the city and the republic. This is the responsibility of each of us. Ecology is the highest expression of love for the place where you live."
Roman Terekhov, prosecutor of the Kazan Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office, stressed that by participating in the clean-up, schoolchildren and students not only clean up the territory, but also form environmental awareness.
"Many thanks to everyone who participated in the event today. I would like to express the hope that not only in the framework of such events we would clean the shores and forests, but just in our spare time we would go out into the countryside and do useful things," he said.
The activists themselves shared their impressions of the ecological holiday:
"We are very pleased to participate in this event. It's good that there are such campaoigns that help make the world a cleaner place. Thanks to our joint work, the lake area has become cleaner. Our common goal is to make nature protection a part of everyday life."
In addition to cleaning, the activists participated in interactive platforms and workshops. Master classes on knitting sea knots and creating a magnetic map of Tatarstan were organized for adults and children. The participants were also able to gain practical knowledge about waste sorting and respect for nature. The clean-up day ended with a concert program and field kitchen treats.
