During a working visit to Tatarstan, Maxim Korolkov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, inspected the biological sewage treatment plants (BSTP) of Kazan and the sludge heat treatment plant

2 August 2025, Saturday

The reconstruction of the BSTP was carried out in three stages within the framework of the federal project "Improving the Volga" of the national project "Ecology" in order to reduce the proportion of polluted wastewater entering the Volga River.

Kazan's BSTPs, which treated 42% of Tatarstan's wastewater, were among the top 200 main pollutants of the Volga.

The work was carried out from 2021 to 2024 under the supervision of the Ministry of Construction of Tatarstan with the participation of government organizations and contractors.

In June 2025, studies and simulations were conducted to optimize the operation of wastewater treatment plants in winter.

The reconstruction of the BSTP, the reclamation of silt fields and the construction of a sludge heat treatment plant are carried out in a complex, providing Tatarstan with a systematic approach to environmental issues.
