Exhibition-installation “Metropolis” of Vladimir Seleznev is held at the center “Hermitage Kazan”

14 November 2013, Thursday
Exhibition-installation “Metropolis” of an artist Vladimir Seleznev (Yekaterinburg) is held at the center “Hermitage Kazan”. Installation is a composition made of consumption waste, namely plastic and glass bottles, cardboard boxes and plastic package. In the daylight the composition looks like a pile of rubbish, but when the lights are out, when projectors illuminate the elements of installation covered with phosphorescent compound, we see the picture of illuminated city. Two lighting regimes demonstrate the contrast of what is real and what is delusive.
The piece of art also touches upon ecological topic that is relevant for any large city. “In the dark visitors of the exhibition admire the beauty of the night city, while in the daylight all you can see is rubbish, the product of human life. As a rule, in Russia rubbish is versatile: plastic bottles, boxes, various plastic bags. When I started working on this project, I started developing ecological awareness, — says the author of the exhibition Vladimir Seleznev, — at supermarkets I never take various bags. I appropriately recover batteries and lamps. And it’s been a long time since I bought water in plastics. Many of my friends are concerned with it. I think that these people should understand what we do. And I’m glad if this exhibition is a clear example of how much waste one person can produce, and what we can do to prevent it”.
The exhibition will last until December 15, as it is reported by the Press Service of the center “Hermitage Kazan”.
