Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation: we set ourselves the task of increasing the population of snow leopards in Russia to 150 individuals

The International Conference "Study and conservation of the snow Leopard in the world" is taking place in the capital of Tatarstan. Joining forces." This landmark event brought together representatives from all 12 countries of the snow leopard range to discuss joint measures to protect the rare predator. Participants from Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan arrived in Kazan to develop common approaches to the protection of the snow leopard.

Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, stressed the importance of international cooperation for the conservation of the snow leopard population:  

"The snow leopard unites our countries, and only together can we achieve significant results in preserving one of the most amazing predators on the planet. There are 90 snow leopard species in Russia, which is less than 2% of the total number in the world. We set ourselves the task of increasing the population to 150 individuals. For this purpose, a strategy for the conservation of the snow leopard has been developed, 17 specially protected natural territories have been created in its habitats, and the fight against poaching has been intensified. We pay special attention to international cooperation in solving this problem." 

Alexander Shadrikov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, stressed that the snow leopard is a symbol of Tatarstan and a totem animal of all Turkic-speaking peoples, and our task, as descendants, is to preserve it. 

Within the framework of the conference, it is planned to adopt the Kazan Declaration, which will unite efforts to preserve the rarest species.
