A large-scale project is being implemented in Tatarstan to collect car tires and further recycle them in support of the national Environmental Well-being project.
Anyone can contribute to the protection of nature: to do this, you need to leave a request on the official website of PJSC Tatneft or bring old tires to the reception points at gas stations or city sites.
Currently, processing sites are operating in 17 Russian cities, including Leninogorsk and Nizhnekamsk. By the end of June, the full technological cycle will be implemented in Kazan. You can rent tires in Tatarstan at Tatneft gas stations.
The list of gas station addresses is available at the link: https://uvr.tatneft.ru/punkti-priema--shin-u-naseleniya?lang=ru&ysclid=m7xat0en1f524167915 and on the Ecological Map of the Republic of Tatarstan: https://ecokarta.tatar.ru/
Tire recycling takes place in two stages: first, the tires are crushed into crumbs, then treated thermally by pyrolysis. In the process of pyrolysis (chemical decomposition), 500 kg of pyrolysis condensate is obtained from one ton of rubber chips. The condensate is sent to TANECO, where isobutane is isolated from it. Then Tatneft's production facilities produce isoprene rubber from isobutane, which is used for tire production.
For reference: in Russia, about 800 thousand tons of used tires are generated every year, half of this volume falls on the Volga and Central Federal Districts. To solve the problem of recycling such waste, PJSC Tatneft is developing a large-scale tire collection and recycling project. In the coming years, the company plans to process at least 400,000 tons of raw materials per year.
