The National Environmental Company (NEC) conducted a large-scale environmental campaign, which resulted in the collection and removal of over 20 tons of spent batteries from the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan. This became possible thanks to the signed Agreement and fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Ecology and the NEC.
Batteries contain dangerous substances such as lead, cadmium, zinc, nickel, lithium and manganese, which, if improperly disposed of, can harm the environment. Therefore, the collection and processing of such waste is an important element of protecting nature and the health of residents. The main goal of the cooperation is to develop an infrastructure for the separate storage and collection of chemical power sources.
As part of the campaign to collect batteries, conducted in educational institutions and in support of the national project "Environmental well-being", Tatarstan residents have collected 166 tons of batteries over 5 years. The competition takes place twice a year: in spring and autumn. Thanks to the comprehensive infrastructure created in the region, about 60 tons of used batteries are sent for recycling annually.
