The X World Conference of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Sport and Environment started in Sochi. This global forum unites participants and partners of the Olympic movement, as well as representatives of other structures acting in the field, namely governments, international and non-government organizations engaged in the matters of nature protection; industry and business communities, scientific and research institutes, mass media and so on.
Aims of the conference are as follows: to regularly evaluate achievements in the field of sustainable development in the framework of the Olympic movement; to provide the interested public with the possibility to acquire new knowledge in the field of sustainable development by means of experience exchange and using practical achievements; to promote further cooperation and improvement of ecological policy with regard to sports.
Organizers of the event will focus on the advocacy of success achieved by the Olympic movement on its way to sustainable development including in the framework of Summer Olympic Games 2012 and the XXVII World Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan, as well as the plans of organizers of Winter Olympic Games 2014, Summer Olympic Games 2016, and Winter Olympic Games 2018. Special attention will be paid to the matters regarding attraction of attention of the international audience to the key achievements of Russia in the field of implementation of new ecological standards, including standards of “green” construction, into the programs of international sport events conducted on its territory.
A new President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak, the Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Sergey Donskoy, President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov, First Deputy Chairperson of the International Affairs Committee under the State Duma Svetlana Zhurova, Executive Director for the Olympic Games of the IOC Gilbert Felli, Manager for Sustainable Development and Heritage of Rio 2016 Tanya Braga, former Whistler Mayor (Vancouver 2010) Ken Melamed, member of the IOC Sport and Environment Commission Camilla Haugsten, First Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan and other people participate in the conference. All in all, more than 400 representatives and partners of the Olympic movement, international business community and experts will take part in the event.
The participants will discuss the matters of efficient management of large sport projects taken in conjunction with the matters of nature protection and prospects of the world economy development. The following plenary sittings are planned: “Beyond sports: joint vision of sustainable development”, “Heritage of Olympic Games and Olympic Movement for sustainable development”, “Russian Heritage before and after Sochi-2014”, “Rio + 20. Future that we want: the role of sport” and so on.
Presentation of the 3rd Acknowledgement program from the IOC “Sport and Environment”, the awarding ceremony of the contest “Sport and Environment”, as well as press-conference of the IOC management for accredited mass media representatives will be held in the framework of business section of the Conference.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation will organize the event with the support of the Russian Olympic Committee, Organization Committee “Sochi-2014” and the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of Russia.

Inspectors of the Central Department, together with representatives of the Kazan Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office and the Office of the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography of the Republic of Tatarstan, conducted a survey of the territory of the Zelenodolsk district.
The events were held in the Zainsky district. The commission included inspectors from the Zakamsky Department of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan received an appeal from residents about violations of environmental legislation in the Yelabuga district. Inspectors from the Kama Department went to the site and confirmed the fact of dumping production and consumption waste into the territory of the Bug River water protection zone.
