The 78th meeting of the joint board of the Union State Committee on Hydrometeorology and Environmental Pollution Monitoring is taking place in Kazan today. The event is attended by employees of the hydrometeorological services of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
Alexander Shadrikov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, welcomed the guests and participants of the meeting on behalf of the leadership of Tatarstan. He noted the crucial role of the hydrometeorological service in all sectors of life. Speaking about our region, the head of the department emphasized the activities in the field of hydrology. "For our region, where there are 2 largest reservoirs - Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk and more than 36 thousand water bodies - it is of great importance. Only accurate and operational hydrological data make it possible to ensure the integrated and rational use of water resources, including in the operation of hydroelectric power plants, emergency situations agencies, navigation and in the system of modeling the regime of "Hydro Cascade", he noted.
In addition, given the presence of large petrochemical industries and the dynamic development of the economy as a whole, monitoring of environmental indicators - atmospheric air, surface waters, soils, and radiation background - is important for the republic. "This is the tool that allows you to find verified solutions in the development of industry based on the principles of environmental safety of the territory," Alexander Shadrikov stressed.
The holding of the BRICS summit in Tatarstan in October will require the mobilization of efforts of the entire infrastructure of the republic, including in the field of hydrometeorological safety, the minister noted. "It is also a kind of exam, a test of professionalism. I am sure that we will provide a decent level! And today this Board is another opportunity to discuss the most important issues in the field of hydrometeorology and exchange best practices!" - the speaker concluded.
