Speakers of regional authorities, scientific institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan, design organizations, the largest enterprises and companies of Russia spoke at the final round table "Development and implementation of projects aimed at improving the ecological condition of water bodies of the Republic of Tatarstan". The session was moderated by Rifgat Shagidullin, Director of the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. Olga Manidicheva, Deputy Minister of Ecology, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

"This year, the All-Russian Conference named after Anatoly Ivanovich Shchepovskikh is being held for the 19th time. Every time we try to bring to the round tables the most pressing issues and, most importantly, approaches that allow us to solve pressing issues of environmental safety. We thank everyone who actively responds and participates in the discussions. This time we are holding three round tables, two have already been held - on urban planning and climate change. Of course, we could not leave aside the issue of protecting water bodies. Words of great gratitude to the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan for supporting us in holding such a large-scale event," the Deputy Minister noted.

Associate Director Dmitry Ivanov, Doctor of Geography, Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use Problems, presented a report on scientific support for the implementation of projects on environmental rehabilitation and improvement of water bodies in the Republic of Tatarstan. He noted that the main environmental problems for Tatarstan's water bodies are diffuse runoff, reduction of the water mirror area, siltation of rivers and lakes, violation of the regime of water protection zones. As an example, the speaker told about three lakes of Tatarstan that have been degraded over the past 50 years. These are Chistoye, Mokhovoe and Kovalinskoye lakes. The scientist considers one of the reasons for the shallowing of these water bodies, including the construction of a catchment area.

Ruslan Rykov, a junior researcher at the Hydrology Laboratory of the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use Problems, also spoke at the round table with a report on "Legal and environmental features of assessing the modern hydrological status of water bodies."

Oksana Sargina, Head of the Directorate for Natural Territories of the Institute of Urban Development of the Republic of Tatarstan, spoke about the improvement of the territory of the Blue Lakes. Work has been underway there since 2020.

"The value of the Blue Lakes is obvious, it is a natural monument with an area of 1910 hectares. Due to their attractiveness and proximity to Kazan, they have become very popular. At one point, there was a risk of blurring the narrow strip of land between Blue Lake and Kazanka, which could lead to the loss of the lake. The problem of household garbage was also acute and it required changes. The main transformation was research and a large team of experts, including the Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Ecology and the Ministry of Forestry. About 200 people who have been engaged and are engaged in the improvement of Blue Lakes in support of the national project "Ecology". We also focused on the development of culture, the attitude of visitors to natural resources, education and the introduction of new types of activities such as forest therapy. We are trying to teach people to interact with the natural world in a different way and show how nature, in turn, can enrich a person," Oksana Sargina said in her speech.

At the moment, the territory of the Blue Lakes has walking paths, information stands, fonts, piers, eco-centers, where everyone can get information about this unique place and participate in master classes.

Daria Tolovenkova, Head of the Department of Passenger and Transport Development at the Institute of Spatial Planning of the Republic of Tatarstan, told about the comfortable urban environment. She once again emphasized that ecology begins with everyone and it is very important to preserve natural beauty in the formation of modern urban structures.  The round table also discussed approaches to solving the problem of "blooming" of water bodies and a system for monitoring the quality of surface waters in the Republic of Tatarstan. The whole program was aimed at developing new methods for further use in solving issues of environmental well-being of the inhabitants of our republic.

Following the meeting, diplomas for the best report and medals named after A. I. Shchepovskikh was presented to Oksana Sargina, Head of the Directorate for Natural Territories of the Institute of Urban Development of the Republic of Tatarstan, Guzel Petrova, head of the laboratory of the Center for Industrial and Environmental Safety of PJSC Tatneft, and Julia Tunakova, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor, lecturer at the Kazan National Research Technical University named after A. N. Tupolev. Shamil Pozdnyakov, Director of the Institute for Research of Continental Water Bodies of the Russian State Hydrometeorological University, was also awarded a diploma for participation.
