As part of a large press conference, Ecology Minister Alexander Shadrikov told reporters in more detail at what stage the project is currently at to revive the population of saker falcon chicks. The falcons brought to the Kama Estuary at the end of June have already been released into the wild.
"Our Shchepovskikh Foundation has launched an initiative to revive the Saker falcon population. The last time falcons were seen in the Kama Estuary was in 1972, more than 50 years ago. We prepared the project together and applied for a SIBUR grant. They supported us both last year and this year. In fact, it turned out to be a very beautiful project. Words of great gratitude to SIBUR for the support provided. Last year, the project became a finalist for the Crystal Compass Award. Now the second batch of imported chicks is already flying. The project will live on and have a continuation. The little chicks are already flying, they fly and hunt, as the volunteers say. Words of gratitude to our science and students of KFU, who fully accompany the chicks," said Alexander Shadrikov.
Feeding will always be provided for Saker falcons in an artificial nest, they will be able to return at any time and find food for themselves.
Let us recall that in June 2023, 10 chicks were delivered to the Kamsko-Ustinsky district and released into the wild. In 2024, the Ministry of Ecology's project to revive the Volga-Kama Saker falcon population in support of the national Ecology project continues with the support of the SIBUR grant system.
