On May 22, the International Day of Biological Diversity is celebrated all over the world. On this day, it is especially important to pay attention to the problem of the disappearance of many representatives of flora and fauna. There are more than two million animals worldwide, almost 11 thousand species of birds, 320 thousand species of plants and 35 thousand fish.
612 species are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Tatarstan – these are 224 species of animals, 316 species of plants, 24 species of lichens and 48 species of fungi.
The red Book plants of the republic include cornflower, buttercup, carnation, water lily, ferns and other herbaceous plants. Among the animals listed in the Red Book of Tatarstan are the river otter, muskrat, marten, and among the birds there are peregrine falcon, saker falcon and others.
Let us recall that since 2023, the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the support of SIBUR, has been implementing a large-scale project to revive the Volga-Kama population of Saker falcons. This is a rare bird species that is listed in the Red Books of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan.
