Siberian scientists have identified more than 15 species of insects in the Kurilsky Nature Reserve. Moreover, two of them are for the first time in Russia. Such a discovery is important both for Kunashir Island, where butterflies were discovered, and for the entire fauna of Russia.
Insects are extremely important for the ecology of our planet. They recycle waste, regulate the number of plants and animals, pollinate flowering plants, and promote soil formation.
Scientists have already come to the expedition four times and found something new. So in 2022, experts have collected more than 50 new species of insects. We will continue to look forward to their opening.
