An updated volume of the Red Book "Plants and fungus" will be released in Russia

Russian scientists have begun preparations for the publication of an updated volume of the Red Book "Plants and fungus". It is planned that the publication will be released before the end of 2024.

According to the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia Alexander Kozlov, in 2021, together with representatives of the scientific community, the volume "Animals" was released, this year a volume dedicated to plants and fungi is being prepared for publication. Some plants and fungi will be excluded from the book, as the threat of their extinction has disappeared. Some of these plants will remain on the regional Red Books. In total, 65 items will be excluded from the previous edition of 2008, including the Caucasian snowdrop, gunibsky onion and others. In total, the new edition will contain information about 741 objects of the flora.

The updated list of plants and fungi was approved by the order of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation. Work on the updated edition of the Red Book of Russia will last throughout the year. Over fifty specialists will take part in the large-scale work.
