The modes of operation of the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade were discussed at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group

25 January 2024, Thursday

Today, Rosvodresursy held the first meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on regulating the modes of operation of reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade this year. Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov took part in the meeting.

The issue of establishing the operating modes of the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade for the period up to February 10 was discussed. Since January 08, the reservoir has switched to filling mode. As of January 25, the level was 50.42 m BS.

According to the Federal Hydrometeorological Service, as of January 20, snow reserves in the Volga-Kama basin are 128% of the norm.

In order to prepare the Upper Volga reservoirs for high water, a decision was made to increase costs through the hydraulic units of the Sheksninsky, Ivankovsky, Rybinsky and Gorky reservoirs.

Accordingly, flows have been increased through the Kuibyshev (up to 4,800 cubic meters/s) and Volgograd (up to 4,900 cubic meters/s) reservoirs.

An increase in discharge costs through the Volgograd hydroelectric power plant is also necessary in order to stabilize the water management situation in the Astrakhan region.

According to forecast calculations, the level of the Kuibyshev reservoir will gradually increase and by February 10, 2024 it will reach the level of 50.5 m BS.

Taking into account the current water management situation, the Ministry supported the modes of operation of the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs proposed by Rosvodresursy.

The established modes of operation of hydroelectric reservoirs will be published on the official website of Rosvodresursy.
